Welcome to My Home Town Website

frontMy Home Town is a Non Governmental Organisation set up to address the high poverty levels affecting the living standards of the people of Choma in southern Zambia and to initiate an empowerment programme. Choma was once a vibrant and prosperous town in the good old days around the 1960’s until the dawn of the 1970’s when government nationalised the economy which saw the mines, farms and manufacturing companies falling under government control. Subsequently, that led to a downturn in Zambia's economic activity mainly in commerce and agriculture. The objective of MHT is to inject a new lease of life into people's living standards in the hope of turning their fortunes around. Poverty has gripped the people and robbed them of their dignity that they once enjoyed. This has led to misery in many households. Parents can't take children to school because they have no money and the sick are left to die without seeking medical help due to lack of drugs and qualified health personnel and the right diagnostic equipment in health institutions. Malaria and the dreaded HIV and AIDS is having its toll on many homes and the two are listed as the number one and two killer diseases in Zambia. Despite the efforts of the global fund to fight the diseases by distributing free Anti Retroviral Therapy - ARV - and free treated mosquito nets, many families continue to experience deaths of their loved ones. The challenge faced by many people is failure to put their sick on a good food supplement due to a shortage of jobs. If people are unemployed it means that there is little investment, and investment yields employment generation. The Roman catholic church has intensified its efforts by providing a food package, a bottle of cooking oil, salt, mealie meal and sugar to improve the diet for the most vulnerable in the community. But this is not enough to go round. More is needed to be done. It is in this vein that MHT is focused on improving the social sector, particularly in the field of health, education, agriculture and the road network. MHT has membership across the Diaspora both in the Northern and Southern hemisphere. Links are being established to put our efforts together and pool resources by engaging in fundraising ventures and solicit for support wherever we can by reaching the hearts of philanthropists who have emphathy for the poor and starving masses in our communities.

Mission Statement

Supplement Communities' self empowerment efforts by attracting investment to the district and Offering support particularly in the areas of people management and development through a collaborative and coordinated community initiative.

To attract philanthropists to the forefront with a bias towards a cynical act of pragmatism and capitalism without completely discounting a socialist approach to self-economic emancipation in a quest to elevate peoples’ living standards within the community.
